One of the most relevant problems with which we are is the difficulty of access to the drinking water supply in all the populations of the North Fogny. Access to water is a fundamental right of people and as such a right the population of Fogny Nord wants to enjoy with all the conditions of satisfaction that entails.

In this area when conflict with the guerrillas was active, wells were used strategically to weaken the contrary and many of them were poisoned, and therefore irrecoverable. Once the conflict was appeasing, the situation is given that in many areas new wells have not been excavated, and those who remain are quite deteriorated, when not dried, and cannot be used.

In this context, one of the most obvious deficiencies is the access to drinking water in a proper way and with guarantees of health. The existing wells in the region, except on rare occasions, do not offer any health guarantee.

In order to alleviate this complaint, since 2008 the Association CPAS actively works in the Fogny area, in the framework of the Karonghen programme, sustained and partially funded by Manos Unidas, and having as the main Financiador the Spanish Agency for Cooperation International development (AECID).

But in recent years this program has seen considerably reduced its budget. And there are towns that are outside the radius of action of this intervention and that also contemplate needs detected and not satisfied.

It is at this stage that the demand arises to tackle the problem of water supply.

The freatic layer of the area is deep and often dull, which means that if the wells are not constructed with contrasting criteria of robustness and durability, they suffer a rapid degradation. This fragility of the current wells allows the rainwater to be listened to them, without any kind of filtering and increasing the possibilities of contamination of the water with the consequent risk to the health. The new wells are built by teams of professionals from the area specialized in this domain, with extensive experience and who have already done other actions in collaboration with the Association CPAS.

Some of the current wells of which the population is supplied are often remote from the villages and the time the women use to ensure home water is very large and the effort to make it very heavy. One of the important points where to have potable water supply is in schools. The ability to have water for students and teachers allows a correct development of educational activities and guarantee of good school health.
