INTERNATIONAL AFRICA DAY 2024

On May 25th we celebrate the international day of Africa, honoring a 25 May 1963 when the OUA (Organization for African Unity) was established, and since 2002 replaced by the UA (African Union).

And one more year we echo this day starting with the same header to contextualize the appointment of this celebration. Once again, a special day that gives prominence to the African continent. And tomorrow it will be another international day headline who will take over. And so we are doing with the days and with what we want them to represent. And in the same way we consume the time that pushes us fast and rarely savor the moment.

A year ago we asked ourselves "what do we know about Africa?", and in a year we will surely be able to ask ourselves the same question. Beyond the little or less little that may appear in few powerful media, we will have to delve into the serious search for content related to our southern neighbors. Not even the CAN (African Cup of Nations) that was played this year in Côte d'Ivoire appeared in the sports section of TV3.

Of course, Barça, whether they make a fool of themselves or work a miracle, go out 7 days a week. Not even something as frivolous from a news point of view as football, which often serves as a straw to the lack of information, has been present in a minimally decent way. Of the latest musical, cinematographic, theatrical or dance novelties emerging from Africa, it is not even necessary to check the newspaper library; It would be a waste of time.

How is it possible to underestimate a continent with a population that is already approaching 1500 million people and from which we extract (and plunder) natural resources as if it were the backyard of our little house? Every day we witness the arrival of kayaks and other boats that are often floating coffins on the various beaches of Spain, and this is perhaps the only news that comes to us related to Africa. What if we dare to look further?

From the KASSUMAY FOUNDATION we want to maintain a respectful look towards this land and put our grain of sand in what it entails to give visibility to the life experience of the people who every day wake up and live, breathe and enjoy, work and fight, laugh and suffer ... only a few kilometers further down as you look at the maps.
