AFRICA INTERNATIONAL DAY 2023

On May 25th we celebrate the international day of Africa, honoring a May 25, 1963 when the OAU (Organization for African Unity) was constituted, and since 2002 replaced by the AU (African Union). And one more year we echo this day starting with the same header to contextualize the appointment of this celebration.

What do we know about Africa? It's hardly an exception (but it's no exception to the widespread ignorance of our world). However, surely we could place it on a geographical plain, at least taking into account the 14 kilometers that separate us from this distant continent too often. And surely we will have some recent echo of some misfortune caused either by the selfishness and wickedness of man or caused by the force of nature. Or a top-level footballer from one of the 54 countries that make up the continent's variety will come to mind. And of course, we will be very sad with the last images that come to us of the last sunken precarious boat loaded with human beings trying to reach the entire powerful Europe. And little more.

Today, as we begin to emerge from this mental shackle, we celebrate the vigorous creativity of so many musicians – women and men – who fill the continent's day-to-day life with sounds and dancers and who export their talent beyond their borders and allow us to enjoy their art. We also celebrate the push of so many women who constitute nuclei of scientific knowledge, political leadership, business creation, social struggles, defense of women's rights, active participation in communities, voices that proclaim, peacebuilding, hunger for justice. The women who with their firmness consolidate day by day a human project rooted in the dignity of each person, working with conviction and hope convinced that they have their place that corresponds to them now and in the future, in order to reach a longed-for African societies where the historically recurring vision of fatalities and calamities is not imposed.

From the Kassumay Foundation we want to be by the side of this desire to do, to live, to fight, to demand to be free to be what we want. It is not about hiding dust under the mat ; It is necessary to know how to identify life with all its nuances and play everything on the card of the integral development of people. We all have something to do with it.
