INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION DAY

In 2018, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed January 24 as International Education Day.

It has been established considering that education is a human right (art.26 Universal Declaration of Human Rights), a public good and a collective responsibility.

For this right to be possible, equal opportunities and universal access to education are required.

Diembering School (Senegal)

In 2016 at the summit held in Incheon (South Korea) the objectives of the 2030 agenda were established linked to education: an inclusive, equitable and quality education, as well as permanent learning for all.

This year, all the planned actions have been affected as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. A situation that in different parts of the world has caused the impoverishment of many families, whose children have had to leave school, especially girls. Without a basic education these girls are even more vulnerable.

We want to refer to Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 for defending and fighting for the right to education for girls and women. He was always supported by his father, a primary school teacher, and his family. In 2012 at the age of 15 she suffered a terrorist attack by the Taliban because she went to school, but she has continued the fighting.

Children are often forced to work in depressing conditions to help the family. We live continuously in a world full of contradictions. We argue that companies do not hire child labour (so that children can enjoy their childhood and go to school), but on the other hand, we continue to buy products made in factories where the fundamental rights of these children are violated.

It is necessary to observe other situations such as that of countries immersed in warfare where there is a great difficulty in attending educational institutions.

As for the most developed countries and in seconds in which areas other educational difficulties are presented such as school absenteeism or abandonment of studies due to disinterest, demotivation or lack of self-esteem. As for the transmission of values, there is a lack of solidarity and knowing how to put yourself in the place of the other in order to value it and respect it in its differences.
We also want to refer to the migratory phenomenon. Educational training in developing countries can serve as a brake for young people not to emigrate.

New school in Kabounkout (Senegal)

Along these lines, the Kassumay Foundation within its projects is very aware of the educational action. A school was built in Kabounkout in 2014 and a secondary school is currently being held in Sindian. As well as the agricultural and management training of the vegetable gardens with women as well as advice on the transformation of their products.

We are firmly committed to Education.
