WORLD SOCIAL JUSTICE DAY

In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed February 20 as World Social Justice Day. They based this decision on the assertion that global justice is a fundamental principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence, and that it constitutes the core of their own mission to promote development and human dignity.

And once again we use the first paragraph as a contextualization of the day at hand today.

We also recall the common elements of consensus that remain in contemporary senses of the concept: the duty of the state to distribute certain minimum vital means (such as economic, social and cultural rights), the protection of human dignity and affirmative actions to promote equal opportunities.

And of course, from here we would talk about the right to well-being and dignity of each person, based on respect and application of human rights, and the achievement of a sufficiently harmonious coexistence, with freedom and peace.

And once again reality puts us in place with ferocity and makes our guts stir full of indignation when it opens our eyes to what is happening in so many places in the world. We find it hard to believe that so many barbarities are being committed in 2024 after all the history lived over the centuries and that we were confident that it would bring us learning as human beings. Nothing could be further from what would be desirable. Not even the fleeting sigh that we would be better after the covid pandemic has gotten anywhere.

There are too many indicators that do not augur a better future, and worse we do not need it. There are many people everywhere who struggle every day to make this place that we inhabit a little more breathable, healthier, kinder, more beautiful, more musical, more friendly, more welcoming, fairer. However, we must recognize that there are many fewer who take care of the opposite. They are less, of course, but very powerful.

From the Kassumay Foundation, often outraged, sad at times and with our eyes always open, we will continue with our purposes that place us in the first group despite the difficulties and weaknesses. We encourage ourselves and everyone else not to give up and continue believing in utopia in order to continue advancing.
