MARCH 8TH AT CASAMANCE

CARME VINYOLES i CASAS journalist and columnist for the newspaper El Punt Avui on social issues, today women's day, we share a reflection that makes us:

MARCH 8TH AT CASAMANCE

The sun doesn't have to go out twice or set twice while a woman is child. This African proverb that no one would question, too often does not apply on the continent that has caused it for persistent reasons of inequality that impacts reproductive health. In some regions of Senegal, such as now the Casamance, the shortage of health centers and medical care means that maternity become a major cause of mortality due to avoidable complications such as bleeding, infections, eclampsia and obstructions of childbirth. The March 8 is said in many ways and a of them is solidarity and shared work by guarantee the basic rights of the most vulnerable, starting with being born. We applaud initiatives such as those of the Foundation Kassumay (peace, in the diolà language), which counts with the support of the town councils of Sant Boi de Llobregat, Begues and Sant Joan Despí, among others collaborating entities. It has been launched a maternal and child centre in Balandine, lower Casamance, which caters to mothers and children of this town and those of the surrounding area and substantially increase the survival rate.

The right to be born – and not to die in the and also the right to live generating the resources and acquiring autonomy and capacity decision-making, and in this sense the projects community gardens (Elole Madiédiame managed for 128 women and Guinéa Djilakounda, for 65 women) contribute to the union between them, strengthen their role within the group and gain ground equality. They move forward because they walk Boards.
