VALENTÍ SESAR, NATURE

From the KASSUMAY FOUNDATION we want to share, with the gravity it demands, the following writing by Valentí Sesar, which we believe reflects quite well the feeling that many of us have towards the issue that concerns him. Being realistic sometimes entails that necessary degree of pessimism.

If there is one topic of rabid current affairs that grabs the headlines of all media, whether written, television or radio, it is that of the "environment". It is the star theme par excellence and in a relatively short time, it has gone from being the "obsession" of four notorious environmentalists who only wanted to attract attention and touch the necks of the system, to become an issue that concerns all governments in the world.

And notice that intentionally, I said "concern" that it is very different from saying "it is concerned" (which is to get to work), because apart from solemn and bombastic statements that aim to scare citizens and make them feel guilty, when it comes to remedying effective and urgent measures, everything is on wet paper.

And these leaders who have attended all the congresses, world climate summits, symposiums on climate change, etc, etc. When they return to their respective home countries, suddenly, inexplicably, they suffer a sudden episode of amnesia.

All good intentions, all agreements, all commitments are diluted in the bath of reality. A reality that has a name and surname: "ECONOMIC INTERESTS". These interests are represented by those who have squeezed and continue to squeeze nature and exploit and destroy natural resources with impunity without the slightest scruple.

And it is in the public domain that it is precisely these powerful conglomerates of corporate holding companies that directly or indirectly put or remove the governments in power. And I wonder . . . Like ordinary citizens, can we expect governments to act in favour of nature?

It would be going against him, like throwing stones on his own roof. As that famous saying goes: "Whoever is part of the problem, cannot be part of the solution."

No, I'm not at all optimistic about the future of the planet. Knowing the excessive ambition (it would be better to say greed) of man, this cannot end well.

The way we treat nature, she will treat us, and it is clear that rather than treating her, we are mistreating her.

I have a hunch that his response will be terrible.

"If you serve nature, nature will serve you."
